Shaikh Abdul Qadir Thaika Sahib Waliullah kayalpatnam

Shaikh Abdul Qadir alias Thaika Sahib Wali was the eldest son of Umar Wali. He was a great scholar , saint and professor. He traveled thoughout Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Ceylon and spread Islam. The rulers of Kerala and Ceylon were his admirers. He composed short and long poems in Arabic and Tamil. He was the Qutb of his time. Several saints of Tamil Nadu and Ceylon studied under him. Shaikh Mustafa Alim Wali and Kashawatte Muhammad Lebbai Alim Wali were his main Ceylon disciples. He was the Khilafa of his father Umar Wali and also of Sayyid Shaikh Jifri of Calicut. He propagated Islam and Qadiriyah Thariqah. His famous Arabic poem is "Ahmadhulla " in praise of our noble Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi alaihiwasalam). It is very popular in Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. His son Sayyid Muhammad Salih and his brothers were all scholars and saints.

Umar Waliyullah kahiri

Umar Wali was the son of Shaikh Abdul Qadir. His grand mother was a daughter of Sadakathulla Appa. He had his earlier education under Muhammad Nusky alias Pal Appa. He got baiath from him. Umar Wali also got baiath and Khilafath from Sayyidna Jiffri Thangal, a sage and a saint from Halramawth, a descendant of our noble Prophet Muhammad (sal). Umar Wali went to Mecca to perform Hajj and to Madina for the Ziyarath of Holy Prophet Muhammad (sal). In Madina he met a great Schoalr and a Saint Assayyid Muhsin Al Mukaibali. He taught Umar Wali many hidden secrets of spiritual teachings and gave baiath to him. Umar Wali spent five years in Madina as a teacher and then as a principal. Then Umar Wali came back to Kayalpatnam. Oneday, while he was leading Jamath at Magdoom Mosque, he heared the call from his spiritual guide Sayyid Muhammad Buhary Thangal and went to Cannanur. Qutb Buhary Thangal gave him baiath. When Buhary Thangal came to Kayalpatnam, people gathered at the seashore and received baiath from him. He was the Qutb of that period. Umar Wali went to Achakarai in Indonesia and spread Islam. Umar Wali had six sons and one daughter and all of them were saints. Umar Wali wrote poems of utmost elegance and concentrated mostly Sufi themes. His work Allafal Alif is a masterpiece. The verses are in alphabetical orders. Another poem "Ilahi Kam Tubaqqini", "O God how long you are going to keep me alive" is very famous in Tamil Nadu and Ceylon. Umar Wali passed away this earthly life on 14th Thul Qaeda 1216 A.H / 1804 A.D.

Salahuddin Waliyullah: (1051 – 1098 A.H / 1641 – 1686 A.D)

Salahuddin Wali was the last son of Sulaiman Waliyullah. He was born on 1051 A.H. He studied under his father and elder brothers. He is highly talented Arabic poet. He has contributed profusely to Arabic literature.Mappillai Lebbai Alim Wali once said that Salahuddin Wali is one of the eminent poets the Arab world has everseen. Sadakathulla Appa says that Salahuddin is the youngest among our brothers but he is the greatest of us in Knowledge.
One of his major composition is "umdatul Hujjaj". He has also composed a extensive mawild in praise of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (sal) . It is called Tarafal Alam. He traveled many parts of Tamil Nadu and propagated Islam, Arabic and Arabu and Tamil. He died at Kalakkad Erwadi and was buried there. His shrine is there.

Samu Shihabuddin Wali

Samu Shihabuddin Waliyullah was the fourth son of Saint Sulaiman.He was born on 1045 A.H. He studied under his father and elder brothers. He composed many poetical works. His work Ikhtilab Malai which is based on Mizanul Kubra of Abdul Wahab ash’ Shahrani, a great Arab Scholar. This manuscript deals with 550 points in which the Shafiyi and Hanafiyi school of Jurisprudence differ. Another book entitled Faydur Rahman fi Ikthilafil Aimmatil Ayan which also deals with the differnce of opinion of the four Imams. Samu Shihabuddin Wali composed many Qasidahs in Arabic and in Arabu Tamil in praise of our holy Prophet Muhammad (sal) . He composed in Arabic Moulid (Panegyric) on our Prophet entitled Miladus Samj Fi Madaihin Nabiyyit Tihami. He composed many poems like Rasul Malai, Periya Hadith Malai, Penn Puthi Malai, Kalyana Bidat Malai and Thegai Malai etc. He developed Arabu Tamil and toured various town with his brothers Salahuddin and propagated Islam. Periya Hadith Manikka Malai contains translations of one thousand one hundred and nineteen selected traditionsof Holy Prophet. Shinna Hadith Malai consists of 608 Hadith. Both these works have been printed several times in Tamil. He expired on 1121 A.H. and his shrine is at Appa Palli Mosque Campus. He was great Savant and revivalist

Sadakathulla Appa Waliyullah - kayalpatnam

Sadakathulla Appa Waliyullah is widely known as Madihur Rasul. Sadakathulla Appa was the third son of Saint Sulaiman Waliyullah. He was born on 1042 A.H. He studied under his father. Later he went to Adirampattinam and studied under his father’s class mate Magudoom Shaikh Abdul Qadir alias Magudoom Shinnina Lebbai Alim Wali who built the Jumma Mosque in Adirampattinam around 1640 A.D Magudoom Shinnina Wali and Sulaiman Wali studied under Periya Shamsuddeen Wali around 1020 A.H. He taught both men and jinns.
Qasidatul Witriyyah is the famousArabic Epic of Sadakathulla Appa. He has composed several thousand lines of long and short poems. His works also include commentaries on the works of famous Arab authors, criticism on some famous writings and contributions in the form of takhmis and tashtir. He visited various parts of India and preached Islam. He met the great Moghul emperor Aurangazib at Jamiah Mosque near the Red Fort, Delhi. The emperor maintained good relatinship with him and appointed his son Muhammad Lebbai Alim Wali as one of the scholars in the group of Alims who had prepared the famous fatwas called Fatwa Alamgiri. Sadakathulla Appa worked in Mecca and Madina for two years. He taught various subjects to the students in the holy cities. His younger brothers Salahuddin Wali and Samu Shihabuddin Wali traveled with him and propagated Islam. Sadakathulla Appa mostly spent his time in prayer and Dikr at Errattai Kulam Palli. At his old age he stayed at Keelakarai. Follwing Sadakathulla Appa SeethaKadi also went and settled at Keelakarai. When his master and guide Magudoom Shinnina Lebbai Alim came to Erwadi, he invited him and requested to stay at Keelakarai.The shrines of saint Magudoom Sinnina Alim and of a saint sadakathulla Appa are at Keelakarai.

Sinna Shamsuddeen Wali - kayalpatanam

Sinna Shamsuddeen Wali was the eldes son of Sulaiman Wali. He learnt Quran by heart at his early age. He studied under his father. He was an excellent Hafil and an eminent scholar. He concentrated his effort in establishing Quran and Arabic Madrasahas. Many students studied under him and became great scholars. His hand -writing was beautiful. His hand written Quran was shown to public at Islamic Tamil Conference held at Kayalpatnam during 1978. His shrine is at Kodimara Siru Nainar Palli. A lady Saint by name Fathima , who was his relative and a disciple was buried next to him in the same shrine.

Hafil Ameer Wali - kayalpatinam


Hafil Ameer Wali: (Approximately 990 A.H – 1070 A.H)
Hafil Ameer Waliyullah’s birth and death years are unknown, but he was a student of Periya Shamsuddeen Waliyullah and also a classmate of Saint Sulaiman. Hence we can assume that he had lived between 990 A.H and 1070 A.H. He was hard working, sincere and obedient student. While he was a student, he went to see his beloved teacher Periya Shamsuddeen Wali and he was asked to stand near his resident door for a short time, but the spiritual guide came back only in the early morning and surprised to see his student was standing throughout the night. He appreciated him for his obedience and respect for his master. He prayed Almighty Allah to grace him good memory power and wide knowledge of various subjects. Soon he became an excellent Hafil and an eminent scholar. It was he who found out Arabu -Tamil writing method and also developed Arabu-Tamil literature. Like his professor, Saint Shamsuddeen, he also learnt the art of controlling and teaching jinns. Like his classmates, Saint Sulaiman and Saint Magudoom Sinnina Lebbai Alim, he also performed many miracles. His tomb is at Hafil Ameer Mosque.
